The Helper
Kauri
A kind, curious young kauri seed who can see the hidden digital world. He can solve almost any problem, but he must learn that helping everyone is not the same as being loved.
A fictional New Zealand story world
Meet Kauri, Kiwi and a neighbourhood of people whose greatest strengths can also become their hardest lessons. Small stories. Honest choices. No perfect answers.
The world
The Green Kauri Universe is a fictional world rooted in New Brighton, Christchurch, New Zealand. Its neighbourhood café, salon, workshops and small businesses bring together people who see the same problem in completely different ways.
Kauri is a young kauri seed who can see a hidden digital world of websites, search, broken links and spam. Kiwi is his sleepy, unhurried best friend. Around them are six people trying to make a living, care for others and work out what matters when the easy answer is not the right one.
Every story begins with an ordinary problem. The deeper story comes from the characters changing one another: the helper learns to rest, the fixer learns to say “I don’t know,” and the realist learns that she deserves care too.
Familiar places and recurring relationships make every choice matter.
The same problem produces eight honest, conflicting reactions.
No villain and no perfect hero—only people learning from one another.
Meet the neighbourhood
Their strengths solve problems. Their weaknesses create them. Together, they make the Green Kauri Universe move.

The Helper
A kind, curious young kauri seed who can see the hidden digital world. He can solve almost any problem, but he must learn that helping everyone is not the same as being loved.

The Sleeper
Relaxed, quiet and rarely in a hurry. Kiwi sleeps in impossible places and notices the obvious things everyone else misses. He says nothing matters, then always returns when a friend truly needs him.

The Listener
A 29-year-old hairdresser and salon owner who makes people feel safe enough to talk. Lucy knows the neighbourhood’s stories, but rarely tells anyone about the worries she carries herself.

The Fixer
A 52-year-old plumber who sees a practical solution where everyone else sees a disaster. Reliable and stubborn, Dave can fix almost anything—except his habit of refusing to say, “I don’t know.”

The Earner
A 34-year-old small-business accountant who can see the meaning behind every number. He chases financial security, yet keeps discovering that the most important things cannot always be priced.

The Optimist
A 48-year-old café owner and barista who remembers every customer, every coffee and every conversation. Ted always gives people another chance, even when kindness needs a firmer boundary.

The Realist
A 47-year-old café owner and baker who reads people quickly and dislikes wasted words. Practical on the surface and quietly generous underneath, she cares for everyone except herself.

The Checker
A 44-year-old electrician and gifted fault-finder who refuses to accept “probably safe.” His caution protects people, but life keeps asking him to make choices that cannot be checked first.
The story collection
Green Kauri Comics is a growing collection of short illustrated stories set around everyday life in New Zealand. Kauri, Kiwi and a recurring cast face work pressures, money worries, relationships and moments when an easy answer is not the honest one.
Each story stands on its own and leaves room for a small truth: growth is often less about having the perfect answer than choosing who we want to become.
